Friday's Little Gem~ Zumwalt Prairie

Happy Friday Everyone!
I am adding a NEW concept to my blog!
Every Friday I will be posting a small new project from the Art Studio.
All the original paintings will be small and other art pieces will be truly unique.
The idea will provide me the opportunity to experiment with many art forms.
Lucky You...they all will be for sale at a "Special" price only through Sunday.
This weeks "Little Gem".......
The painting below is of the Zumwalt Prarie and the
Wallowa Mountains in Northeastern Oregon.
The Zumwalt Prairie blooms in the the month of May and June.
The prairie encompasses 330,000 acres and 4,400 acres is a designated
 National Natural Landmark.
The Zumwalt Prairie grassland is situated on a basalt plateau which varies in
elevation from (3,500 ~ 5,500 feet).
The Chief Joseph band of the Nez Perce were the original human inhabitants of the
prairie who used the area for hunting and gathering in the spring and fall.
The Nez Perce were forced out of the area in the 1870's after
President Ulysses S. Grant officially opened the Wallowa County to white settlement.
Many bird species are located here such as the Swainson's Hawk, Rough Legged Hawk, and many grassland songbirds.
When I first visited the prairie in 1986 I was struck by the vast landscape.
The clouds dance over the prairie creating shadows of giants on the grass.
The sounds of wind stirring the grasses and the songbirds create a treasured silence.
I visited many times since and it truly is one of my favorite places in the west.
A breathtaking untouched landscape.
Below is the small painting I created in the studio this week.
The painting measures 11 X 14 inches.
The flowers are so rich in color and so many types mixed together.
The giant red clovers, lupines, daisies, and millions of others create
 natures incredible colorful carpet.
The painting is available until Sunday for $300.00.
