Out of the Blue!
The Spring Marshes are currently filled with LIFE!
Ducks, Geese, Herons, Cranes, Pelicans, Blackbirds, Bitterns...
just to name a few!
Each day last week I found myself in the marshes that surround the area!
The photo opt was so wonderful!
I also discovered NEW paintings to create!
I created this painting in 2006.
It still is one of my favorites that just says "Spring is Here"!
A pair of Common Golden-eye take an afternoon swim.
The parents little ducklings are well hidden in the grass and watch.
The older duck to the right is telling all the other's she is in "CHARGE"
while the parents are out!
Golden Eye Ducks are medium size ducks with a triangular head and sloping bill.
The body is mostly white with white windows along the folded wing.
The head is iridescent green and often looks black (as I painted here).
The female is grayish brown.
Several different mutations exist and the bills also vary in color.
Beautiful ducks!
The photo below is some swimming yesterday in one of the ponds!
The cattails are HUGE!
Some are at least six feet tall.
I am only 4'11" tall so I have to pay attention!
A few cougars have been seen through the area.
I have only seen a Bobcat and of course Elk.
The colors of the red and yellow twig dog wood
surrounding the ponds are vibrant in the spring!
You can also find wild pussy willow and fresh green shoots coming up.
Yesterday I saw the very first flowers for 2018!
The "Nature Carpet" was amazing!
Take a few minutes this week and visit your local marsh, lake and pond!
A NEW world awaits!
Happy Spring!
