You Golf...I Bird!

I would rather “Bird” than Golf!
Both are in full Spring Season!
I have been an avid birder since 1964.
My parents gave me the
Bird Life Diary
that year for Christmas!
It has now become a treasured possession.
You can read in detail about my personal diary
in the Blog Archives below.
The “Birding World” has provided a place to escape into nature,
develop my sketchbook and continue the study of the Great Outdoors.

I sketch the many birds I see and learn their habits.
The sketch above was the study for the painting:
“There’s One in Every Crowd”

You learn to observe their behaviors and comic individuality.
Watch closely and their human interactions come forward.

When I am out in the field I try to take notes of the surrounding habitat.
I will sit and observe and sketch features for future reference.
My many sketch books have now grown to cover a
variety of places and subjects.

A personal Life-Journey.
I want to encourage everyone to start “Birding”.
What JOY it has brought to my LIFE.
600 plus species now & counting.
Have a Wonderful Evening!

Be an Oregon Bird!

Be an Oregon Bird!
A Meadowlark!

One of the first sounds of Summer
is the arrival of the
Oregon Meadowlark.
The song they sing whistles through the sagebrush of Eastern Oregon.
The striking color of their yellow breast against
the sage green and blue skies
begins the Artist’s Summer Palette.

Add caption
I have created many sketches of the Meadowlark.
I also painted several original paintings of them.
Always singing their song.
The one above is caught singing his departure song
as the foliage turns to fall colors.

The image above is so special to me.
The original painting depicts a colorful wall at

Out of the Blue

BLUE is BACK!
Blue has to be one of my favorite colors and it is HOT!
Interior Designers, Decorators and Artist's
are truly enjoying the resurgence of the color!
Pan-tone selected it as one of 2019 and 2020
BEST COLORS!
The painting below is titled appropriately!
"Out of the BLUE"
I created the painting from several photographs I took
of Lesser Scaup ducks swimming on the Oregon Crooked River.
The parent's decide to leave their children home
as they enjoy an evening swim together.
Two of the children gaze at them
while the other two plan some mischievousness while they are away!

The parent's are seen below.
Note the head shape and the gold color eye.
The head of the male is iridescent.
The male duck with its slightly turned head
is
"Watching the Kids" from the corner of his eye!

Spring is just around the CORNER!
Enjoy!

40 Years of Painting Christmas 1 of 2

Forty Years of Painting Christmas!

Christmas...the most Beautiful Season of the Year!
Christmas time has always been simply "Magic" to me!
The heavy snows, the smells in the kitchen, crafting, puzzles, decorating, snow forts,
snow camping, outdoor fires, moonlit walks, and friends and family.
My art career has also provided me over the years a place to share my love for the
"Magical" Christmas Holiday!
I have created many Christmas & Holiday Paintings.
In 2019 I will be "Celebrating 40 Years" of my Art Career!
I want everyone to SHARE in the CELEBRATION!
Below I have selected a few of my FAVORITE Holiday Pieces.
Each one is truly unique and filled with detail
&
My Love of the Christmas Season!

The first is called: "Whose Woods these are I think I know"!
A winter hike in the forest you discover it is filled with life!
Animals scurry looking for food and shelter from the next storm.
The birds play in the bushes trees as a large snowy owl creates
a snow avalanche from one of the large ponderosa pines.
A coyote stops and listens for the mouse he has been tracking.
If you look closely you can see more than 32 animals hidden
within the painting.
The original painting is currently available.

A Snowmobile Holiday!
The painting was created in 2000 and depicts the
"Antique Snowmobile Club"!
The log Cabin is adorned with holly and swags of pine.

Timberline Lodge
The most successful Christmas Painting of all
I created in 1994.
The painting has sold over 50,000 + copies.
The historic Timberline Lodge is one of the most
"Celebrated Public Art Work Projects" in the United States.
The lodge was constructed during the Great Depression as a WPA Project.
Craftsman were enlisted to create paintings, carvings, stonework, iron, and textiles.
It is now one of the most famous lodges of the west.
The scene depicts majestic Mt. Hood in the background as skiers
enjoy an Americana Holiday at Timberline!
Can you find me painting the painting?
The original painting was sold to a private collector.

"Our First Christmas in Oregon"
The painting depicts my living room of the first home I lived in
 (and renovated) in Oregon.
The main living room is already for the holidays.
On the mantel sits a historic miniature village of homes on the
National Historic Trust in Oregon.
The painting was painted in the early 90's.

"I Wish We Were Invited"
In 1996 I decided to make a change in my art career.
I just love wildlife, humor, and nature.
So, I created the painting below.
The bunnies are so disappointed that they were not invited!
The chipmunks are delighting in Christmas Cheer!
The painting went to the Los Angeles Gift Show...
I waited for the reaction from my sales reps...and the public's reaction was wonderful!
750+ prints sold at that show!
Soon afterwards my chipmunk character "Ms. Elizabeth" was created!
So you can say...the painting below changed my career!
The original painting was sold to a private collector.

Christmas Preview!

Christmas 2018 Preview!

The Art Gallery currently resembles more of  Santa's Workshop
than an
 Art Gallery!
The theme this year is "Mountain Holly & Berries"!

Oregon grows some of the most beautiful holly in the world.
Holly Farms are located within the Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast
and along the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains.
One of my favorites:
Fernhill Holly Farms:
The farm began in the early 50's by Tim Timmerman and his wife Norene.
The first year they shipped 250 pounds of holly.
Now the farm is recognized on the world stage as one of the BEST!
Now, a third generation is becoming more and more involved.
What another successful Oregon Business!
Keeping with the theme...
I have produced several paintings of "Birds in Holly".
The first is "King Quail".
He is keeping an eye out for the owners of the Holly Farm
while he eats berries in a snowstorm.
The second is "Oregon Junco Joe".
He is also enjoying the berries in the Christmas snowstorm.
Both original paintings are currently available and measure
6" X 8".
The current price is $250.00 each and are signed and dated.
A lovely gift for that "Special Someone".

Both of these images have been produced in many products...
from fabric to dishware and prints.
I absolutely love the "Snowflake Ornaments".
I like how the "Oregon Junco" and the "King Quail"
are looking at each other.
Check out ALL the Ornaments and many other products located here:
Jennifer Lakes Bird Store

The "Holiday Season" is rapidly approaching!
I hope you enjoyed this little preview...
More being released next week...
Back to the WORKSHOP!

The Art Gallery has a NEW Mascot!

Jennifer Lake Art Gallery
has a
 NEW MASCOT!

How many of you remember "Woody" the Art Galleries Mascot?
Woody would be found getting into trouble everywhere!
He would paint paintings in the middle of the night...rearrange art and quite
frankly cause "FUN" havoc!

A wonderful lady, friend and client Phyllis Piper created our
 NEW MASCOT!
I am PROUD to introduce....
ANNE!
Our NEW Mascot was created in La Grande, Oregon!

"Anne" will watch over my Art Gallery and bring us GOOD LUCK!
So far she is creating Smiles on Everyone's Faces
when they walk through the door!
Such a wonderful addition!
We look forward to sharing her with you!
Some of you asked ..."What happened to "Woody"?
I don't know...I haven't seen him since Sisters.
He was not found in any of the boxes...
so I am guessing he is riding a horse somewhere in Sisters.
If he does reappear again...I am sure Anne & Woody will become
BEST FRIENDS!

Don't you think she is Wonderful?
Keep the "Child" alive in YOUR HEART Forever!
Have a Wonderful Evening!
Your Artist Friend,
Jennifer Lake
