Thursday Art Memories! TBT

 Wow! Throwback Thursday!
The painting below was one of the first I ever produced in 1980!
The painting depicts my first 1950's kitchen in Oregon!
Simple, wild color and very little detail!
I didn't even sign my full name then!
I look at it now and just smile! What a fun Americana "Happy" Image!
The painting is owned by a family in Oregon.
"Cherry Pie Day"
The painting below I created also in the early eighties for a girlfriends birthday!
She always wanted a day just to sit alone and reflect!
You know how that goes..being a Mother, full time career etc?!
She wanted a garden....so here it is!
The painting was painted in 1989
and shows that I was starting to add detail and color!
Maybe I should create another Garden Scene just to see the changes!

Home Portraits were huge in the nineties and now are returning!
Most people love the "STORY" of their family painted.
American Homes are places of joy, solitude, stories and our lives!
Over the past MANY years I have painted many styles, shapes and places.
Always fun for me and the family!
I have a nice list I provide to help you plan your painting.
Many sizes and variety of pricing available....however there is a waiting list.

Customers Favorite Things from ALL the Stores Last Week!

The "Jennifer Lake Fabric Store" was very busy last week!
The amount of floral fabrics that sold looks to me like
Spring & Summer will be ARRIVING!
Wasn't this a VERY LONG Winter?
We still have over two and half feet of snow on the ground!
The fabric below is called "Canada's Wild Pink Roses".
I spent many weeks the summer before last in the
 Cariboo Territory of Canada.
The flowers were absolutely amazing and the wildlife!
Yes...I could live in the Cariboo Territory with no problem!
Absolutely Spectacular!

The "Daisy Bug" fabric sold for the first time this week.
I love the abstract feel to it and the 'Bugs" sitting inside the center's of the flowers.

"Lillian's Lilacs" fabric has sold extremely well this year.
A client is creating a quilt from all the coordinating fabrics.
I cannot wait to see it!
The original painting took over three months to produce.
Each flower petal ...detail upon detail.
Check out the original painting and the story behind it...
in the
Jennifer Lake Fine Art Store ~ Flowers of My Life ~ Gallery.

"Pink Foxglove"
The client is from Dallas, Texas.
She is creating an entire "Patio Collection" utilizing these fabrics.
Foxglove ..is one of my favorite flowers.
The pink ones below grow profusely around the cabin.
Summer is so short here that I treasure every flower!

The "Ms. Elizabeth Day Off Boutique" is VERY busy!
Easter is just around the corner!
Everything from Easter signs like the one below to Easter Egg Shirts for the entire family have been selling.
There are three designs to select from.
The store is located to the left of this blog!

A few little girls are going to be VERY surprised when they arrive at
Grandma's House in Cannon Beach, Oregon for
 Spring Break!
Their Grandmother redecorated their "special" bathroom.
She told me one granddaughter is a blonde and the other a red head!
How cute will this be?
She ordered a bathmat, soap dispenser and shower curtain.
All the products are located in the "Ms. Elizabeth Day Off Boutique".
Located to the left of this blog.
She even added the girls names to the floor mat!
I would love to see the girls faces!

Have a Wonderful Spring Break!

A Few of My Customers "Favorite Things" from the Jennifer Lake Fine Art Store~

A few of my customers "Favorite Things" from last week!
The "Daisy Dew" print and frame was purchased by a client in Seattle.
The piece has been sold several times with the same frame.
I really like this photograph I took because of the dew on the petals
and the spiral design in the center.
Nature is so talented!
Daisy Dew

A "Summer Lavender Lemonade Canvas" was purchased by a couple in Des Moines, Iowa.
The client is using it on the wall of her covered porch for summer!
She sent me an email and asked if I would like to join them for
Lemonade when the decorating is complete!
OK!
I love these canvases myself!
Many of you will remember them hanging seasonally on the exterior of my home in Sisters, Oregon.
Summer Lavender Lemonade

One of my favorite paintings I ever painted...
"Todd Lake/ Mount Bachelor"
A couple purchased a new home in Bend, Oregon and the piece will hang over their fireplace.
Todd Lake

They told me Central Oregon is exploding since I left!
I see on Facebook many Central Oregonians complaining about the traffic.
Over here you just worry about running over Elk, Turkey's, or an occasional coyote!
All these pieces can be found in the
"Jennifer Lake Fine Art America Store"
The store is located on the upper right of this blog.
If you need assistance please feel free to email me!
I love to help!

Three Original Paintings!

Spring has Arrived!

What better way to "Celebrate" the arrival of Spring with an
 "Original Sale Release".
I only release a few originals for sale per year.
So I am very selective of what will go for sale publicly.
I think you will all enjoy reviewing the three below.
The first original painting is titled "A Peaceful Place".
The painting was created on Masonite Board with Acrylic Paint.
The board creates the look of a very flat dimension
and provides the ability to paint intricate individual strokes.
The scene is of "Sparks Lake" and "Mt. Bachelor" located in Central Oregon.
The shore of the lake is flanked by beautiful Summer Columbine.
I have painted "Sparks Lake" several times in different styles.
The rendition below is the only one available.
The painting measures 26" X 28" and is signed.
Over 200 prints and canvases have been sold of the original image.
A Peaceful Place ~ Sparks Lake ~ $7,500.00

Yellow Daisy's at Smith Rock
~Yellow Daisy's at Smith Rock~
Everyone just loves Smith Rock in Central Oregon!
A rock climbers paradise!
The rock formations attract artist's from all over the world!
The shadows and depths and detail of the stone I find intriguing!
I have painted "Smith Rock" several times and all the originals have been sold.
The original painting here will be available in print April of 2017.
I enjoyed painting all the intricate details of the plant life.
The layers of brush strokes always remind me of stitchery.

The painting measures 18 X 24 and is painted with Acrylic Paint on beautiful canvas.
The current value is $3500.00.

~

"The Painted Hills"

What artist cannot resist painting these spectacular formations created by Mother Nature?
Amazing colors, forms and interest!
Over the years I have spent countless hours hiking the terrain, photographing, plein air painting,
and waiting patiently for the perfect Thunder Storm!
To be present at the "Painted Hills" when a Thunderstorm happens creates a sense of true wonderment!
The dark clouds form a backdrop behind the magnificent landscape of colors and
creates a spectacular glow!
The yellow flowers (bloom in mid May ~ June) provide a framework surrounding each crevasse and slope.
The thunder rolls off of the surrounding peaks and echos through the small canyons.
The smell of rain approaches and within moments a small flash flood begins.
Only to stop within seconds...... the sun returns its magic on the colors once again!
I waited for the "Thunderstorm over the Painted Hills"

The painting measures 48" X 60".
Thunder/Sky Detail

The current value $10,500.00
Close - Up

The painting is a canvas gallery wrap.
Yellow Flowers & Sage

The painting will be released in April 2017 for the first time in print.

How Far I Have Come!

Throwback Thursday!
I really have had only one career since 1980...
so it is fun for me to reflect on my progress!
Like, any artist, it is a joy to see how your style has developed and changed!
Now almost forty years later...Yes in 2020...40 YEARS!
I reflect on so many images that I created.

The Old Bing Crosby Ranch
I can now say "I really did it MY way"!
The style of "Americana" that I started with....
 has always been popular and
will be for many more generations to come.
I twisted the style over the years and developed my own.
I think that is the real key for artists to be successful today.
The detail, fun, a puzzle like style really intrigues many people and me!
Many of the GREAT Americana Folk Artists are now gone but the style lives on.
Only a few artists today spend the amount of time on the detail and story telling.
One painting can take over six to twelve weeks alone.
Home Portrait of Football Star Dan Fouts

Spending time painting in public is a real plus!!
I suggest artists take the time and paint in
local coffee shops, restaurant lobbies, and campgrounds, etc!
The owners love it!
People love watching you paint live...it also builds confidence and courage!
Besides ...you may sell a piece!
So many people always enjoyed watching me paint in the gallery!
Look at all that BROWN hair!!
OH MY!
The photo below was taken in the late eighties inside the
Soda Creek Gallery in Sisters, Oregon!
A massive NEW project is under way for my 40th Celebration!
Yes the project will take the next couple of years!
You know me ! I thrive off of huge projects!

Spring Stitchery!

Spring! Spring! Spring!
The Snow is MELTING!
The runoff of water in the forest is loud and amazing!
However, inside the cabin Spring is popping up all over!
As many of you know I seasonally decorate!
Pillows, wall art, seasonal objects are such a JOY to unwrap!
One of my favorites is the floral cross stitch seen below.
It was a gift from a very dear friend years ago!
I love the colors, design and DETAIL!
It just says SPRING!

The front entry to the cabin says "Welcome" with all the
SPRING themed paintings together!
My parents wonderful Oregon Meadowlark looks like he is actually saying
 "Spring has Arrived"!
I just love the sound of Meadowlarks!
My parents are still avid artists! You can visit their website on the LINK below!
https://www.etsy.com/shop/willkaystudios

There is a waiting list for their "Pet Portraits"!
Say "Happy Birthday" to my Dad while you are visiting!
He will be 85 on Monday March 27th!

The needlepoint below took several years to complete and a
wonderful friend finished it into a pillow for me!
It is a William Morris Design!
Love the Spring Colors!
I hope this will inspire you to have fun decorating your home seasonally!
Seasonal Decorating has brought me Great Joy!

Squirrel Watch!

3" Brussel Sprouts! It's Whats for Dinner!

What to do with three inch Brussel Sprouts!
The month of "Green" is still upon us!
I found these wonderful Brussels Sprouts at the local health food grocery!
So I decided to stuff them!

I sliced them in half and then carved out all the insides.
I chopped all the interior shavings into a fine mesh.

They look like little tiny cabbages at this point!
I then stuffed them with leftover Beef Stroganoff. Yum!
I mixed Basil, Italian Herbs and lemon juice into the shavings.
The shaving mix was placed at the bottom of the pie pan.
Then topped with the stuffed Brussel Sprouts!
Add a half a cup of white wine for moisture into the pan
...and one in a wine glass for YOU!
The dish was going to the oven and then the table so
I added sliced tomatoes as a garnish for color!
I baked them for 30 minutes at 300 degrees!
YUMMMM!
What's for Dinner at Your House Tonight?
Have a Great Evening!

Spring Vintage & Humorous Decorating!

Spring Decorating!
I just find great joy in decorating for every season!
Maybe its a way to clean the house seasonally or its a form of
 self expression!
Anyway...I love it!
Over the years I have collected a wide variety of "things" that I love and provide me Joy!
Recently my Dad & Mom sent me my Grandmother Lillian's box of Stitchery!
I was simply thrilled!

She crocheted the edge on the white square tablecloth below.
I love decorating in layers. I placed her table runner over it.
A few blogs back I described my winter garden.
The tulips are coming along very well!
I added the rabbits and sprinkled herbs over the soil to resemble grass.

The rabbits seem to be very happy!
Its fun to bring out some form of humor when decorating!

I own many books and love them all! I will never adjust to the iPad world.
I need to get my hands on the pages.
Books create wonderful additions to decorating ...especially themes!
I always find guests going through them.

The white hand carved rabbits created by artist Becky Wright have once again found their places.
I love her primitive approach when creating.
I have owned them for years and always look forward to seeing their faces!
The plates were designed by William Morris.
 My favorite designer EVER!
He is known as the creator of the "Arts & Crafts Movement".
Below is a LINK ...if you LOVE GREAT DESIGN...he is a joy to read!

Remember to coordinate objects!
The colors in my teapot just coordinate so well with my
 Grandmothers Stitchery.
My Grandmother's porcelain rabbit adds a little humor sitting in a wicker dolls chair!

I found this fantastic hand carved rabbit on my travels last summer.
I call him "Harvey".
He is over 24" long and has jointed legs and arms.
I now have decorated him for every season.
He seems to be very content in his Windsor miniature chair reading his fly fishing books.
Do rabbits fly fish?
Allow your imagination to go wild when your decorating!
After all ..."Its your World"!

I hope you will enjoy your spring cleaning and find humor throughout your home!
We all need a laugh everyday!
