Garden in Winter?

Wherever I live.. I always have a little Winter Garden.
The garden provides a release from the long winter days!
The indoor Winter Garden creates a sense of renewal.

My indoor garden changes from year to year and I enjoy trying new things with plants.
Most people plant Amaryllis for the Christmas season...
I plant the giant bulb in November and then I have amazing red blooms for Valentines Day!
The plant already has three blooms and two stalks!
One of the flowers is already salad plate size!
The LINK below will take you to a site that I follow to grow them:
Winter flowers just take away the winter white blah!

I also start my Geranium seeds in late November.
The plants already look like they are ready to be re-potted into larger containers.
Over the years I have wintered over my geranium plants.
I would cut them back and place them in the garage. Water them once a month.
On Valentines Day I would start feeding them again.
I always you Miracle Grow not sure if its the best but it has always worked for me!
They also make a great Orchid feed.
You will have amazing plants long before the true season starts!
Check this site out for more information:

I found this "Fleurs" wooden basket years ago and
I have planted Tulips/ Daffodils/ Narcissus's and Violets in it.
A wonderful center piece for the dining table in the middle of winter.
It is so country looking and worn. I just love it.
This year I planted Tulips...looks like they are doing well!
I followed these tips from the site below:
https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/tulips/forcing-tulip-bulbs.htm
I also raise orchids, violets and loads of green plants and herbs!
Living on the mountain I  have dug up small pine trees and placed them in antique pots around the cabin.
The smell of pine radiates throughout the cabin.
At Christmas time I decorated them with small ornaments....Hearts for Valentines Day!

The Cabin Sewing Studio ~

Oh.... the wonderful feeling I have in my Sewing Room on a Winter Day!
My creative brain simply explodes!
All the colors and designs of the fabrics, ribbons, threads, buttons, etc...
just provide an endless array of ideas!

I have always had a sewing room studio of some sort.
Some were inside closets in the early days others were very large.
However I still have a cozy feeling when I am working in one.
I think the sewing room I have here at the cabin is by far the coziest!.
The large fireplace is nearby and the windows are filled with views of the mountains covered in snow.

The cozy feeling comes from the things you also surround yourself with.
My Grandmother, Mother and Sisters were avid seamstresses and taught many 4-H girls how to sew.
So naturally my sewing room has many representations of things they all created.

My favorites are the dresses my mother made me when I was a little girl.

They hang as pieces of art now with cherished memories.
The many dolls my mother made me and those china head dolls I collect....
 find places throughout the
sewing studio.
My sister Melissa made the "Jennifer" doll and my Mother made the little cloth doll.
My OLD Winnie the Pooh looks on with a nice smile.
Like every seamstress you usually have more fabric than you will ever use laying around!
I do... but not to the extreme of several of my friends! Sorry girlfriends!
What I have is ribbon!
I use ribbon on everything... decorating projects, collages, greeting cards, paintings, even Max!
I store the ribbons in old candy jars, mason jars, baskets and what else works!

Baskets and small decorator luggage store all my needlepoint!
Yes ...one project per storage! LOL!
When I decorate I love using things that you normally never would think of to use.. like this catering tower!
It comes in very handy and takes up very little space.
Cake plates come in handy EVERYWHERE when I decorate!

I also collect old wooden ladders that I use for everything.
In the sewing studio one comes in handy for hanging projects that are currently under construction.
Fabric hangs waiting to be used for the next project.
I hang the ladders with decorative ribbon (of course) and use wooden hangers to hold all the projects
I am currently working on.
Quilts hang everywhere over the log railings.
Flowers can be found in every corner (Yes..I am a flower girl) along with piles of sewing books.
Yes...a little cluttered but I find that is what feeds your imagination!
If not... you follow the plan of someone else...and its doesn't represent YOU!
Check out my two Sewing Boards on Pinterest!
&
I hope they inspire YOU!
Have a Wonderful Day Sewing Friends!

Birds in Green!

Birds in Green!
I know it is still the middle of winter...however a client purchased all three bird prints below!
The frame they selected just makes you feel like Spring is right around the corner!
The three images I painted in 2011.
The title of all three is called:
 "The Gang"!
The Stellar Jay, Pinon Jay, and the Clark's Nutcracker
can be found throughout the forests of the Pacific Northwest!
They squawk at each other and beg for peanuts every chance they get!
Stella ~ the Stellar Jay!
The indigo blue of the Stellar Jay is so striking to see!
I have now trained one to visit me on my deck here at the cabin for peanuts every morning.
Everyday just like an alarm clock....5:30 AM Squawk...Squawk!
Peanuts Please!
Clark ~ The Clark's Nutcracker
The Clark's Nutcracker was named after William Clark.
The bird was one of the first birds sent back to Thomas Jefferson from the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
You find them always traveling in groups. When they nestle in the tops of the pine trees the sounds they make create a very LOUD and out of tune chorus!

Pinny ~ the Pinion Jay
What can I say about Pinny!
Except I do miss him! When I lived in Sisters, Oregon I discovered a baby Pinion Jay on my back porch!
I just started talking to him everyday and he simply never left.
For the next three years Pinny would arrive in the early evening for his peanut snacks.
Squawking just like Stella!
What a joy it has been to see nature like this.
When I moved from Sisters it was rumored that several of my neighbors continued to feed Pinny.
I am sure he tried training one of them! LOL!
Let's celebrate the arrival of Spring and the Joys of Nature!
