Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

Good Morning Everyone,
I recently started a new collection of miniature paintings titled "The Petite Collection". All the paintings measure less than 12 X 12 inches and are as small as 2x2inches. A huge change for me. I normally paint on 4 x6 foot canvases! The painting below is a representation of the Malheur Bird Refuge located in south east Oregon.
One of the crown jewels of the National Wildlife Refuge System, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge protects a vast complex of wetlands in Oregon’s high desert. The refuge is famous for its tremendous diversity and spectacular concentrations of wildlife. Boasting over 320 bird species and 58 mammal species, Malheur is a mecca for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Today, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge consists of more than 187,000 acres of prime habitat, including 120,000 acres of wetlands, on the Pacific Flyway. Particularly important to colonial waterbirds, sandhill cranes, and redband trout, the refuge also encompasses upland and riparian habitats vital to many migrating birds and other wildlife.
I first visited the refuge on a trip west with my parents when I was ten years old and have returned many times. Birding has become a life long hobby. A variety of my favorite birds are included in the painting below. You can see White Pelicans, Avocets, Snow Geese, Whimbrels and Sand Hill Cranes. When you visit eastern Oregon in the summer be prepared for an occasional thunderstorm rolling over the vast Great Basin. They create a palette of rich colors in the sky and reflect on the grasses and hills below. A show like no other. The original painting here measures 11 X 12 inches only and is available through August 5th for $550.00. Fine Art Prints are available in my Fine Art America Store on the left side of the blog!
Have a Wonderful Day! Enjoy Birding!

Home Portrait Fun!

Hi Everyone!
O Yes! Tis the Season!
The studio is already becoming very busy with "Special" Christmas orders. Orders for vases, lamps, tiles, ornaments and "Home Portraits" are starting to arrive. I enjoy it all! Each order is unique and I create something just for the client that no one else will ever own....so rare these days.
Most "Special" orders come from a place in the heart, a cherished memory such as a family home, an experience, their favorite pet portrait, or outdoor scene. For me, the artist it provides me great joy to be able to create something that will become "Special" for the family for years to come. It is a wonderful feeling. Below are a few photos and information on how you can order something "Special".

Home Portrait Time!

Hi Everyone,
I just completed this large "Home Portrait" for the "Cornog Family" from Dallas, Texas. The painting is 4x6 feet and took four months to create. The "Home Portrait" is of their home at Black Butte Ranch.  I always enjoy painting "Home Portraits" because they capture a period of time for the family. The family history.
Look closely and you can see lots of wildlife approximately every four inches. Detail...Detail...Detail!

Here I am with Bill and Leslie after delivering the art.
"Home Portraits" come in all sizes and make wonderful gifts for Anniverseries, Reunions, Christmas, and Special Family Gatherings. I try to capture the clients story and the essence of place. They are very personal paintings.
I also create items for the client such as their own Stationary, Notecards and Small Gift Prints. I work directly with the client on the design. I have now painted well over 300+ homes across America, Europe, Canada and Japan. I always say to clients .."One day when I retire I will visit all the places I have painted"!
